Fatima al Zahra (a.s)

Fatima al Zahra (sa) was the only daughter of Prophet Muhammad (saw) and Sayeda Khadijah (sa). Fatima al Zahra was infallible, meaning that she never disobeyed Allah (sw) in her life as she could see the true ugliness of sins and the beauty of worshipping her creator. The Prophet (sawa) loved her so much that whenever she walked in a room he would always stand up.

The Prophet (sawa) said, ‘My daughter Fatima is the chief [Lady] of all the women of the worlds’.

A life spent for the sake of Allah (sw), his Holy Prophet and the noble Imams

When she was a child, her mother passed away, and according to Imam al Sadiq (as) from his father Imam al Baqir (as), Fatima’s maturity, love and compassion towards her father meant that she was given a special title: “Verily, Fatima (sa) was surnamed ‘Umm Abiha”. This means that after the passing away of her mother, lady Fatima took the role of supporting and tending to her father Prophet Muhammad (sawa).

“If beauty were a person, it would be Fatima, Nay! She is greater. Indeed, Fatima is my daughter and the best of the people of the earth in her origin, dignity, and honour.” Prophet Muhammad (sawa)

Lady Fatima married Imam Ali (a.s)- the chosen successor of the Islamic Ummah by Allah (sw) as announced by Prophet Muhammad (sawa). Fatima al Zahra (sa) was the mother of of Imam Hassan (as) and Imam Hussain (as), whom the rest of the infallible Imams descended from. Therefore, lady Fatima al Zahra is the connection between Prophethood and Imammah and the mother and spiritual guide for all of the Imams (a.s).
Fatima al Zahra (sa) would spend her nights in worship of Allah (swt) so much her feet would swell. She had many special duas between her and Allah and was never concerned with gaining benefits in this world, she did everything she could for the sake of gaining nearness to Allah (swt). In addition to her spirituality, Lady Fatima was a hard worker. She would work so hard at home that her father, the Prophet of the Muslims (sawa) would sometimes cry upon seeing her tired.

The end of a short, blessed life

Before he passed away, our Prophet (s.a.w.w) wrote in his will that his beloved daughter is to inherit a large farming area called Fadak. This land was beautiful and had many fruit trees growing in it. Fatima al-Zahra (a.s) was so kind that she let all the poor people eat from the fruit and vegetables of her land.
However, after the Prophets death things changed very quickly for his daughter. She was injured when Abu Bakir and Omar came to the house of Fatima (a.s) and Imam Ali (a.s) after his death. They wanted to take the leadership for themselves, and they wanted to make sure that Imam Ali would not object. When they arrived at the house, they set the door on fire and forced it open. Fatima al-Zahra (a.s) was behind the door and was terribly injured from the force. She died from these injuries as well as her unborn baby.

After the martyrdom of Fatima al Zahra (a.s), Imam Ali said:

“The messenger of God was the first column of Islam and Fatima was the second and the Islamic Ummah today has lost its second column too “

Lady Fatima was so hurt from those who had hurt her and her husband’s rights that she requested Imam Ali (a.s) to keep her burial spot a secret. To this day it is not known where exactly she is buried.
